Xiaomi said that they will release a 5G version of the Mi Mix 3 in the first half of 2019 and by the looks of it, they are on track. Yesterday, at the China Mobile Partners conference there was a familiar looking phone on display: the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. However, this version of the phone was not the ordinary one that you can already buy. No, this was the unreleased 5G version that featured the brand new Snapdragon 855 chipset along with Qualcomm’s X50 modem. (Credit: XiaomiMobile.it)
Xiaomi also posted the below video on their facebook page which shows the phone in action where a smartlamp is controlled over 5G. I expect more and more companies to showcase prototypes of 5G smartphones in the upcomming future. But bare in mind that simply having the new Snapdragon 855 chipset and the X50 modem does not mean that a phone will be able to receive a 5G conneciton. Other improvements are needed, like for example the antena module, that will make the device more expensive, as confirmed by Pete Lau from OnePlus.
As a note, we received our Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 a couple of day ago so stay tuned for an unboxing an full review son.
