Those that are waiting for Umidigi’s next device don’t have to wait a lot longer. The company has announced today that they will be releasing the Umidigi S3 Pro right before MWC, on the 18th of February. This is good news because it looks like Umidigi has a good smartphone to offer with good specs and an even better camera. Actually, the camera will be the main selling point of the S3 Pro and will come with a high-end sensor and AI capabilities for better photo quality.
Umidigi S3 Pro will have the new IMX586 CMOS 48MP sensor from Sony that has a 0.8-micron pixel. There is also a secondary telephoto lens that will offer a 2x optical zoom, very useful when you want to take a picture of something a little bit further away. The selfie camera is also good, having a 20MP sensor, encapsulated in a waterdrop notch. We had some sample pictures revealed not too long ago and the quality was good. Hopefully, they improved photo quality even more since those were taken.
Now, having a good camera is not enough for a 2019 smartphone, even a mid-range one. You still need good specs and a good operating system. Umidigi S3 Pro will come with the new Helio P70 paired with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The smartphone will also have 128GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards. The 6.3″ IPS screen will have a FullHD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch for the front-facing camera. The S3 Pro will also feature a big 6160mAh battery that should be more than enough for 2 days of use.
On the software side, we will get Android 9 out of the box. Ummidigi has decided to use stock Android and no bloatware, which is always a piece of good news for both speed and memory consumption. No words on NFC or wireless charging support yet, but we do get dual 4G connectivity, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a fingerprint reader on the back. A special edition with a ceramic body will laso be available for the S3 Pro. No word on pricing was revealed, but the phone should not exceed $250 for the standard model.
