Meizu’s smartphone with no holes, the Meizu Zero, is now available on IndieGoGo for purchase. The device is the first smartphone to offer no buttons and no ports at all, but don’t expect it to be cheap. The IndieGoGo campaign has the Meizu Zero at pre-order for $1299, a steep price even for a high-end smartphone. Furthermore, there is also a $2999 “Exclusive Pioneering Unit” that can be bought by just one person…and it is already sold out.
If you are interested in getting the Meizu Zero you may have to hurry. Only 100 devices will be available and there is no telling when and if Meizu will produce more. As of this writing, 16 people already ordered and they can expect the smartphone to reach their doorstep in April. At this price you may be excused into thinking that the absolute best hardware will be inside the Meizu Zero, however, the company has other plans for the internals. You will get the almost outdated Snapdragon 845 CPU. Luckily, that is the only outdated piece of tech.
Everything else is top notch. The device has a 5.99″ AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint reader, a dual-camera setup with a 12MP + 20MP sensors, 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Since there are no ports, charging is done via the included wireless charger. The Meizu Zero also support wireless USB transfers that are done also using the included wireless charger. Meizu Zero also has no speaker. The sound is transmitted through the phone’s display using a technology that they call mSound 2.0.
Since there are no physical buttons, the smartphone has capacitive ones on the side of the device. The body of the device is also premium, being made of ceramic, similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphones. And because the Meizu Zero has no holes at all, it was easy to get IP68 certification for water and dust. It will ship with Android 9 out of the box and Meizu has applied their FlymeOS skin on top.
