We knew for a while that OnePlus is working on Android Pie for the 3 and 3T models, but no release date was offered. The wait ends today as the company is releasing official open beta ROMs for both smartphones. This is a huge milestone and great news for owners of the two devices and proves that OnePlus is indeed focusing on what the users need and want, despite the fact that these are phones released 3 years ago.
Most companies only offer two major Android upgrades but the 3/3T are lucky enough to get three upgrades. And, to be fair, there was no real reason not to offer this update, except, obviously, the money and time invested by OnePlus to develop it. Both devices are really good and potent, even by today’s standards. The came with 6GB of RAM and the best CPU there was at that time: the Snapdragon 820/821. If you took care of your smartphone I am sure that it still runs very well and does not struggle with any application. I still have mine and can confirm this.
Those that are interested in getting the update can download it using OTA updates if they are already on the beta branch. Otherwise, head over to the official thread on OnePlus’s Forum for details on how to upgrade.
