Nubia Red Magic 3 officially released in China

Companies don’t usually launch a new product during the weekend, but apparently, Nubia did not get that memo since they just released their newest gaming smartphone, the Nubia Red Magic 3. This new device will directly compete with the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 at both price and specifications. Sales will start on the 3rd, with an international release in the next couple of months. Let’s dig a bit deeper now and see what the Nubia Red Magic Mars has to offer.

Nubia Red Magic 3 internal specs

Since it is a gaming smartphone, we expect to have a good CPU. Luckily, the Red Magic 3 does not disappoint. It comes packed with the latest Snapdragon 855 CPU and 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage options also vary a lot. The base model has 64GB but you can go up to 256GB on the highest model. The 6.65″ screen also got a much-needed upgrade. The phone comes with an AMOLED panel that has a 90Hz refresh rate, HDR, DC dimming and a 240Hz refresh rate touch panel that response in as low as 4ms. All of this is powered by a 5000mAh battery that supports quick charge of up to 27W of power. The camera on the back has also been improved. You still get a single camera setup, but this time it uses the new 48MP sensor from Sony. The selfie camera has a 16MP sensor.

Nubia Red Magic 3 has a special cooling system included in the case. The ICE2.0 cooling tech, as they call it, has a multi-layer graphite plate, a liquid cooling system and, in an industry first, cooling fan inside. This fan takes cool air through the intake slot and pushes hot air out through the exhaust slot. All this will ensure that the phone will be up to 5 degrees cooler than other smartphones on the market when gaming. Furthermore, it has side-mounted pressure sensitive buttons that can be mapped to different actions during gameplay as well as a special connector port.

Nubia Red Magic 3 design

The new Red Magic 3 has a strong resemblance to the old model, the Red Magic Mars. it has the same sharp edges on the back with rectangular and hexagonal lines for the camera and fingerprint reader. the RGB light strop on the back is present as well, just like in the previous models. Still, the design is not exactly the same, but more like a refinement on the previous iteration. Furthermore, a new color option was added. In the past there was Red, Black and the top model had a camo pattern that made it stand out. Now you will also be able to buy it in a gradient from red to blue. In the “V” shape element there now is a mesh-like design and the camera module is much better integrated with the rest of the phone.

On the front, the new Nubia Red Magic 3 doesn’t stand out at all. You get a traditional all-screen design, without a notch and with bezels on top and bottom of the screen. On the sides, you get the power button, the volume up and down, the new connector as well as indicators for the touch-sensitive buttons. I am also glad to say that the device has two stereo speakers with the top one being integrated into the earpiece.

Nubia Red Magic 3 gaming features

Being a gaming-oriented smartphone, the Nubia Red magic 3 comes with some features that you don’t usually find on other devices. There are two side-mounted buttons that you can configure to trigger different actions in-game. Also, the fingerprint reader can be made to act as a third button and can take different actions while gaming. For the chatty types, the phone has a dedicated noise-canceling microphone as well as advanced haptic feedback, better than what you usually find on other smartphones.

Last, but not least, there will be a separate doc sold for this phone. This can take up a number of dedicated peripherals and ads some extra ports. This includes a 3.5mm audio jack as well as an ethernet port for better connectivity using a wired connection.
