Huawei Honor 20 and 20 Pro released, focus on photography

With all the scandals about Huawei and their ban in the US, you may have overlooked a new and important release from the company. Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei, announced two new smartphones: Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro. Don’t confuse these two new smartphones with the Honor V20 (or Honor View 20), smartphones released a few months ago. The new devices come with improved hardware and improved photography thanks to the 4 cameras on the back.

You read that correct. Both devices have 4 camera that will capture all the information needed to make your photos stand out. The main camera has a 48MP sensor with f1.8 on the Honor 20 and f1.4 as well as OIS on the Honor 20 Pro. Next, you get a 16MP super wide angle camera with f2.2 on both devices. After this, things change for the two devices quite a lot. The Honor 20 comes with two 2MP camera that are used for depth assistance and macro shots respectively. The Honor 20 Pro replaces the depth-assistance camera with an 8MP telephoto one and ads laser auto-focus. The honor 20 Pro managed to get the highest rating from DxOmark, 111 points, on par with the OnePlus 7 Pro. On the front, both smartphones come with a 32MP selfie camera and a punch-hole in the display to hold it.

The rest of the specs aren’t bad either. The Honor 20 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage while the Honor 20 lowers these to 6GB and 128GB. Both devices come with a 6.26″ screen with FullHD+ resolution (1080×2340). Sadly, the screen is not AMOLED here which also means that you will have to use a side-mounted fingerprint reader instead of an in-display one. Everything is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 CPU. You get all the connectivity options needed: dual-4G, WiFi, Bluetooth 5, GPS, USB Type-C.

Pricing is very competitive. The Honor 20 will cost just €499 and the Honor 20 Pro bumps the price an extra 100€, reaching €599. Not a bad price considering the specifications. If you are looking for a smartphone with excellent photography skills but are not willing to spend your money on a flagship device, this may be the best option so far.
