We know for a while that smartphone manufacturers are working on under-display camera tech. Both Oppo and Xiaomi already teased us with a video each not too long ago. Next week, on the 26th, Oppo will hold an official event where it will present its under-display camera tech. The invitation below has already been send to a few major tech sites.
So far no information was revealed related to how it works, but in the image we can clearly see that the front-facing camera is right below the main speaker and there does not seem to be a hole or a notch, even though this is most probably a render. The prototype will be present a Asia Mobile World Congress in Shanghai. The text on the image translates to “Even more surface”, a clear hint that the camera won’t interfere with the rest of the display. Hopefully, picture quality won’t have to suffer.
So far we don’t know when the first smartphone with an under-display camera will be available to the general public, but as things are progressing we can expect it early next year. Maybe even sooner.
