Xiaomi is known for offering good support for their devices. You can expect 3 years or even more of software updates for most smartphones sold by the company. Even though Xiaomi prefers if you remain on their version of Android, they do offer an option to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM (more details on how to do that here). But, for developers to be able to properly offer a custom ROM, the kernel source needs to be available. Luckily, Xiaomi has now offered that for both the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro.
The sources are available on Github for anyone to download and tinker with. You will need good programming knowledge to be able to make anything out of it, but there are many developers out there that know exactly what to do. Documentation and other useful information are also available at the source. Don’t know exactly when the first custom ROM for Redmi K20 or K20 pro will be available, but with this must-have resource now available, I am sure that devs are already hard at work and we should expect alpha version in the next few weeks.
