We heard about CPU and GPU overclocking for years. I remember doing it on my old Nexus 4 back in the days. You can even overclock the RAM on some devices, but overclocking the screen is something quite rare, especially in the software market. However, with the hype generated by the OnePlus 7 Pro and it’s 90Hz refresh rate, more and more people are looking into the possibility to get butter-smooth animations on their devices. Today we discovered a post on XDA Forum that can give your Xiaomi Mi 9 an 84Hz refresh rate on the screen.
Keep in mind that you are doing this at your own risk. Furthermore, you will need ROOT and an unlocked bootloader if you want to overclock your screen. Are you comfortable with the terms? Then go to the link above and download the Lanthanum System Toolbox.apk and the dtbo.img files. Install the application and in it select partition settings from the hamburger menu. After that make a back-up for dtbo. Once that is done flash the dtbo.img file you downloaded. Reboot the phone and now your Xiaomi Mi 9 should have an 84Hz screen, not quite the 90Hz from the OnePlus 7 Pro, but pretty close.
