A few months ago Doogee released the S90 rugged smartphone. The outstanding part was the fact that it came with external modules that offered additional features to the device, similar to Motorola’s MotoMods. Now the company is releasing an updated version called S90 Pro that offers a few upgraded internals while keeping compatibility with already released modules. Don’t expect many improvements, but the newer CPU is welcomed.
The Doogee S90 Pro comes with the newer Helio P70 chipset that offers an octa-core configuration. It is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The 6.18″ screen has FullHD+ resolution but still features a now outdated u-notch that is quite big compared to the more widely used waterdrop ones. The device still has a big, 5050mAh battery with support for fast charging using the included 12V/2A charger. It also has wireless charging, as long as you don’t attach a module on the back. The cameras on the back have a 16MP sensor and a secondary 8MP one. On the front you will get a 16MP camera that support photo enhancing using the on-board AI chip included n the Helio P70.
This is a rugged smartphone, so expect it to be bulkier than most smartphones. It also has a more heavy design and aspect, but it does come with some benefits. The Doogee S90 Pro offers good ratings for water and dust resistance. It has IP68, IP69K, MIL-STD-810G certifications. The smartphone also comes with NFC that can be used for payments, a fingerprint reader and Android 9 out of the box. Sadly, this means that the S90 that was released not too long ago probably won’t get an update to Android 9. But don’t be too sad if you brought that model and want to upgrade. The external modules you already own are compatible with the new device.
The phone will retail for $299, with pre-orders starting next week. If you want to buy the modules you will have to get them individually or buy a full package that contains the phone + modules, however, pricing was not revealed yet. Doogee is also hosting a giveaway where you can win the device. Visit their contest page here to learn more and enter. If you are interested in the phone, you can pre-order it at their official store.
