Redmi sent out press invitations for their reveal of their first TV set. The launch date has been set for the 29th of August, at least for the Chinese market. Xiaomi had TVs released int he past, but the new Redmi TV is a new milestone for the company since it will focus more on this segment and it plans to have the device available outside of China, something that the original XIaomi TVs did not have the luxury off.
Not a lot of details are available yet, but Lu Weibing posted on Weibo that the Redmi TV will be big, having a 70″ diagonal. Obviously, this will be a smart TV, but no words on the actual operating system. Probably it will be a skinned version of Android, similar to the Xiaomi TV Boxes that are currently available in China. For the global market there are high chances that it will come with official Android TV.
Another thing that sparked curious tech addicts was the fact that Lu posted this from a Redmi Note 8, a yet unreleased smartphone. When asked if the smartphone will be released on the same date, Lu confirmed. This means that Redmi will have a big release on the 29th when they will not only reveal their first TV, but the new Redmi Note 8 smartphone. This phone (or at least the Pro version) will come with the new 64MP camera sensor. Other details are unknown.
