Xiaomi disappoints customer by failing to deliver promised vacuums to hundreds of backers

Roidmi, a subsidiary of Xiaomi that focuses on household items, had a few months ago an IndieGoGo campaign for a new cordless vacuum, the Roidmi NEX. Obviously, Xiaomi does not need the money to develop it, instead, it was more a publicity stunt and a way for people outside of China to pre-order the device. It looked like a sure deal with little risk, considering the company that is behind it. Shipping was due for September, however, most of the backers did not receive anything even today.

On September 12, the company posted an update saying that the first batch is done and shipping will start soon. At the end of the same month, on the 30th of September, another update came where they apologized for the delay and promised that everything will be dispatched in the next few days. Backers started to get impatient and continued to request updates from the company, and on the 14th of October came the last update when Roidmi said that they selected the best shipping method and backer will get their tracking numbers soon. After that, complete silence from the company on their page.

Most backers still did not receive anything, especially those from Europe. The comments section of the IndieGoGo campaign is filled with complains from customers asking for updates, tracking numbers or any information related to the product. Contacting the campaign manager solves nothing as well. They ask you for the contribution ID and after that respond with a generic message:

Hi there,
Really sorry for the long time delivery. Goods are in European warehouse now. We promise you will get yours in this month. Please trust us.
Best wishes,
ROIDMI

The exact same reply has been received by all backers that requested an update via e-mail for the past month and there is still no official update on the IndieGoGo page. Some backers mention that they were promised the goods by the end of November, however, at the time of this writing, none actually got a tracking code back. This seems to be just another attempt to calm spirits. To make things worse, the Roidmi X20 (in the meantime it has been rebranded by the company) can be bought for more than two weeks already from Amazon Italy and Amazon France at the same price as the IndieGoGo campaign, with shipping immediately.

A few people that pre-ordered using the IndieGoGo campaign did receive the Roidmi X20 Vacuum cleaner, however, none got the promised bonuses and there is no information related to when those will be received. Up until now, Roidmi did not offer an official statement, but we will update here if we receive anything back from them.

  1. It was a shame to charge $30 shipping costs for everyone but for EU they ship it by sea whilest other countries like Norway and Switzerland got it by air within weeks. Will never buy xiaomi again.

  2. I’m really disappointed, too. For several weeks now the topic has been robbing me of far too many thoughts. Don’t they notice how unbelievable you get when you send the same message week after week?

  3. This is the worst part:
” The Roidmi X20 can be bought for more than two weeks already from Amazon Italy and Amazon France at the same price as the IndieGoGo campaign, with shipping immediately.”

Let alone the missing perks and bonuses in the packages received, and the refunds for taxes.

Shameful, terribly unfortunate and deplorable treat to the backers/customers.

  4. It is also important all the people who already received it by air and had to pay the customs and tariffs and still nothing has been returned.

  5. I’m one of the injured. What Roidmi is pulling here is an insolence! Especially since they already got one, often the promised accessories are missing or had to pay customs. Absolute NoGo and also the Indiegogo does not intervene there, with such a company is very sad.

  6. It is unbelievable.. I will never back a campaign from Indiegogo again. First and last time. The customer support from Roadmi is the worst I’ve ever seen, they should be excluded from Indiegogo.
