OnePlus managed to get a lot of praise for introducing the 90Hz display in the OnePlus 7 Pro last year. The display is really good and everybody that had the chance to see it in action praised it and appreciated the smoothness. This year the company is preparing something even better. In an official statement, OnePlus has confirmed that they are collaborating with Samsung to launch a smartphone with a 120Hz refresh rate display this year.
OnePlus is calling it 120Hz Fluid Display and it is the result of strong R&D collaboration with Samsung Display. It uses the latest generation of organic light-emitting materials and has a peek brightness of up to 1000 nits, making it one of the best in the industry. OnePlus is also committed to offering 240Hz touch sampling this year. This is not something new (the Black Shark 2 and Black Shark 2 Pro already have it), but combined with the 120Hz display should make for a really good experience.
OnePlus has also implemented a hardware-based MEMC technology that will insert additional frames into videos so that they can be properly rendered at up to 120fps. Normally, this requires a lot of processing power (which translates into a lot of power being drawn), but OnePlus claims that their hardware-based solution manages to do this with low power consumption. Last, but not least, they are adding an automated color calibration machine to the production line which will ensure that every phone has the best color reproduction possible.
For now, we don’t know which phone will be the first to benefit from all this new tech, but with just a couple of months until their next release, we can safely assume that the OnePlus 8 Pro is the winner. Probably the non-pro version will get a similar display tech but at 90Hz.
