Black Shark 3 will be released in just a couple of days and we know quite a lot about the upcoming gaming smartphone thanks to the multitude of teasers that the company posted on their social media accounts as well as the leaks that are circulating on the internet. There may still be a few surprises left, but from what we know so far, the Black Shark 3 seems to be a big improvement over the Black Shark 2 and even the Black Shark 2 Pro.
Black Shark 3 specifications
We know from official sources that the Black Shark 3 will come with the latest Snapdragon 865 CPU and is paired with up to 16GB of RAM. That is on the most powerful variant, so we assume that there will also be a 12GB model and maybe even an 8GB one. The screen will have an AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. We don’t know the exact display size or resolution, but we do know that the touchscreen has a 270Hz touch sampling rate, the highest so far on a phone. The 4720mAh battery supports 65W fast charging and the Black Shark 3 will have (drum rolls please), a 3.5mm audio jack, something that was missing from last year’s devices.
Connectivity-wise, the Black Shark 3 sees major improvements here as well. You get dual 5G SIM slot, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. There is no information about NFC so far, but really hope they included it this time. An interesting feature is the inclusion of a special magnetic connector on the back which will allow you to charge the phone without blocking your hands while playing. We don’t know if this special port can be used for external accessories or if it only for charging.
Black Shark had a few interesting features on previous smartphones, and this time the company will be including more and will also update the old ones. For starters, there are two side-mounted trigger buttons (similar to controller’s L1 and R1 buttons) that can be mapped to on-screen actions while gaming. Besides this, you also get the force-touch functionality from previous Black Shark 2 smartphones which will trigger other actions depending on how hard you press on the screen.
All this power and fast charging generate a lot of heat and that is why Black Shark improved the cooling system for the Black Shark 3. The new system uses a layered approach with the PCB (and components) sandwiched between the cooling pipes and the vapor-chamber. This way the phone could game longer without the need to underclock the CPU.
Price and availability
The Black Shark 3 will launch in China on the 3rd of March during a special event that is being held in collaboration with Tencent. The price has not been revealed yet, but some rumors point at around a $700 starting price tag. There is no official date revealed for now for the Global release, but we are vigilant and will post once we find anything new.
