Xiaomi, or to be more precise, Black Shark released the Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro in China last month, but the international version was nowhere to be found. The company was also silent about the release of their new gaming smartphone in Europe and other regions. This all changed today when Black Shark officially announced that the Black Shark 3 gaming smartphone will be available for pre-order in Europe starting with the 8th of May.
The company will also host giveaways where you could win big discounts (up to 50% off) on the new smartphone as well as cool accessories. Even though it was not officially revealed yet, most probably both the Black Shark 3 and the Black Shark 3 Pro will start sale then. In case you missed our previous articles, let us recap a few of the key specs. Both smartphones are powered by the new Snapdragon 865 CPU and come with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The Black Shark 3 has a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 270Hz touch sampling rate while the Black Shark 3 Pro goes even bigger with a 7.1-inch 3120×1440 OLED screen.
The company improved photography on their new devices by offering a triple camera setup with a 64MP primary camera, 13MP wide-angle camera and a 5MP depth sensor. Don’t expect the new devices to be able to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S20 or OnePlus 8 when it comes to photography, but any improvement is welcome. We see the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack and both devices also have a new property magnetic charging connector on the back so that you can charge the phone while playing. The Black Shark 3 Pro also has dedicated pop-up shoulder buttons that can be mapped to on-screen actions as well as voice controls. It will be interesting to see how this works on the international version.
Black Shark has serious competition in the gaming market. The Nubia Red Magic 5GNubia Red Magic 5G has similar specs as well but improves not he screen by having 144Hz refresh rate as well as an active cooling fan inside the phone, and all for €579. If the price it right, Xiaomi/Black Shark may be able to get some decent market share. We will have to wait until the 8th to find out for sure.
