Huawei’s CFO is one step closer to being extradited to the US

Things are not looking well for Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s CFO. She is being held imprisoned in Canada since her arrest in December 2018 and trialed for allegedly selling information and tech to Iran. The Supreme Court of British Columbia has ruled that the case met the “double criminality” standard and she can be further trialed and extradited to the US. Hearings still need to take place and it can take a bit until the end, but this is a crucial step in getting Ms. Meng in the US.

For those that don’t know, Meng Wanzhou is assumed of getting money from Iran and was charged with “charged with conspiracy to defraud multiple international institutions”. With the help of HSBC Bank and through a different company, Skycom, she passed funds from Iran to Huawei. Skycom is entirely controlled by Huawei. According to her defense lawyers, she did not break any US or Canadian laws and the allegations are only based on an old, 2013, Routers report about the company’s close ties to Hong Kong-based Skycom Tech.

Huawei has reacted on social media and show their disappointment in the ruling.
